With the holiday fast approaching, it is a great time for the whole family to get together to enjoy some reading.  When you read to your children, you instill in them the fundamental skills for success in their later years in school and life.

Books open children to the world, and starting early lets their imaginations run wild.

Don’t forget word-based board games like Scrabble and Bananagrams; or brainstorm and write a list of foods for every letter in the alphabet.

Reading helps with vocabulary, writing skills, attention span, memory, and teaches us about other times and places. Even if your child is just a baby, you should still sit down and read with them every once in a while. An infant can look at pictures and listen to your voice as you read stories to them.

Instill in your children a love for  books.  They will thank you all their lives for opening the world to them.

Happy reading.
